Vidra

Vidra is a romanian mountain village.It belongs to Varfuri, district from Arad area.The name comes from otter (Lutra vulgaris), an animal with invaluable fur that lived in the past along river Cris.

For the first time, the village was mentioned in 1477 when it belonged to Halmagiu region.In 1715 the village had only four families of romanian servs.In 1900 the number of the inhabitants increased to 758.The oldest names and families in  the village are: Mager, Petrisor, Mihuta, Gargaiu, Toderel, Iova, Bota.

The village is made of many nucleus of houses called spinnieies:Mageresti, Mihutesti, Zbegulesti, Borosesti, Costesti, Iovesti, Petrisoresti, Galeni.

The village has a wooden orthodox church/cultural monument/patronized by Saints Cosma and Damian.The church was built at the begining of the XVIII century.The paint of the walls was made in 1851 and it was not kept very well.Near the church there is on old oak which is a nature monument.In the past under this old thee people were gathering for a big fair,on old custom which is not kept anymore.Not far from this tree one can see a grave yard with wooden crosses.The village also has a primary school.Just like in Avram Iancu village the people were going down in the field for exchanging products.Nowadays  people are working in mountain agriculture,they are making lime wooden objects, twig brooms, they grow animals and sell dry fruits.
