Architecture

The term of architecture involves a lot of things: the space, the natural conditions, the climate, the relief, the historical  and social context, the economic conditions and the practice of  some trades. All these things are very important pillars  which in cooperation with the techinque and the estethetic options give a real view of the structure and the construction of all houses observed during the research from Arad and  Bekes.

The architecture from the mountain area (Avram Iancu, Vidra and Magulicea)is a traditional one and the old houses are built on a stone foundation .The raw material for house construction is the wood because in this mountain area the forests are the most important raw material. The localites from this mountain area are scattered villages divided into spinneies. The most important jobs are:trades of all kind ,animals growth and mountain agriculture.

The place where people live is very related to their work. The houses have two rooms, front balcony,a pantry ,a hall and the stables,a small kitchen used only in  summer time, hen coops, pigsties all those things were separate from the main house.

The technique of the house construction is a traditional one with wooden pillars

Blent named “ciotori” at the old houses over 80-100 years and at the recently houses named “sosi”. The roof was made of straws but is not kept anymore. The roof covers a rectangle construction 5- 8 m wide and 10-15m length. From the hall there is an entrance in the balcony and in the rooms, but from the hall you can also go in the attic.

In Vidra there is an old house that seems to be just like in the past, it is a house with only a room, a hall and annexes.

There are modern construction they were influenced by the town architecture and were considered more comfortable. They can be seen as a recent development of the village.

In the field area the town architecture is very much developed( Pecica, Micherechi, Aletea, Totkomlos). Among those modern houses there are kept few old houses which remind of the traditional architecture. The walls are made of earth with no foundation and others are made of earth briks unburned sticked with earth. The appearance of stone foundation or cement foundation gives a real image of the present day.

The roof of the houses from the field area was made of sugar cane in the past very few people had a roof made of tile. In the field area we have many minorities and the houses are vary different: Hungarian house, German house, Slovak house. Both in Romania and in Hungary the field area has a peculiarity, a small house more like a shelter used in the summer time for animals named “salas”. Usually it is apart of the house and it is use even for the cereals, animals growth, it is lived by the master of the house but sometimes by his employees. Its structure is the house, the hall, the backside house, the pantry, the stable, the attic and a workshop. The sizes depend on the owners wealth.

In Pecica, Peregu Mare, Aletea and  Totkomlos a peculiarity of the house is the German house which is taller. It signifies the fact that the owner is a wealthy man. The house has its doors locked and modern windows inspired by the town architecture.

During the researches we took photos of the house from the outside, the old and traditional houses that remind of the old trades, the museum houses preserved on their ancient style, the traditional furniture from the inside and the outside construction of the Slovak house from Totkomlos.
