Avram Iancu

Avram Iancu is a romanian mountain village with forests in the local administration.It belongs to Varfuri district from Arad area.The old name of the village was Aciua.The name was changed in 1948 into Avram Iancu.The village was mentioned for the first time in 1366 together with some leadres names Micle and Hanc.In the XV-th and XVI-th centuries the place belonged to another region Siria.In 1715 the locality had only 4 servs families.In 1843 the number of the inhabitations increased to 680.The oldest names and families in the village are: Miclean, Giurgelea, Codrean, Neagu, Vancea etc .In 1900 in the locality were living 1252 romanians, 6 jews (they were making trade) and 22 hungarians working in the local administration.

The village was made of  many nucleus of houses named spinneies: Glemeie,Dealu, Dulalau, Miclanesti, Oceni, Vajdesti, Nistoresti, Grui, Serbesti, Negulesti,Tomsesti and Betesti.

Today the number of people who live in this locality is getting lower.The  birth rate is negativ.

The village has an orthodox church made  of brick and patronized by Saint Paraschiva.The church was built in 1846.The village also has a baptist church,two grave yards, a primary school,a health unit and a house of culture for cultural activities.In the middle of  the village was built a monument dedicated to the heroes who fought in those two world wars.

The basie jobs were always:mountain agriculture,animals growth,fruit trees,twio brooms making and woodon focks making.In the old times the inhabitants of this village were going down in the field with their wagoons full of apples, wooden objects and lime.They were exchanging all those things for cereals.

The village is famous for a very big fair which takes place every year in two weeks after "Rusalii" holiday.
